Silvio Sarro
August 10, 1931 - January 22, 2022
Silvio Sarro, 90, of Toms River, NJ, died at his home on January 22, 2022, just one week after his beloved wife of 67 years, Marygrace Sarro. Son of Carmine and Pauline (Auferio) Sarro, Silvio's presence was felt as soon as he walked into a room. Booming voice, great head of hair and brute strength, it's no surprise Marygrace knew he was "the one" when they met in high school. Silvio is a proud army vet, serving in Germany during the Korean War. He then dedicated his career to service and community as an Orange, NJ fireman for 30 years. His macho nature softened over time, as he became the proud dad of two daughters, Paula and Michele. His three girls were the center of his life. Silvio loved to work, meet new people and had a youthful verve for life that was admired by all who knew him. After retiring from his fireman post, he worked for the Ocean County Park System for another 30 years, stepping back in 2021 to help take care of his wife. He often preached that being of able body and mind was such a gift and should not be wasted. He made friends wherever he went — whether at Mike's Italian Deli or the poker table in Atlantic City. He was a living template of a man of his time: a loving and faithful husband and father, a patriot and a man who up until his passing brought family together. He remained sharp, witty and youthful till the very end and his grandchildren will always remember their Pop as a source of perpetual inspiration, humor and dignity. While the double loss is heartbreaking for the family to process, we hold on to an unending catalog of marvelous memories. Weddings, grandchildren, great grandchildren, trips to Atlantic City, Yankees games, holidays, vacations and so much more. Silvio and Marygrace were born four days apart in 1931, and their passing so close together feels fateful, like something written in the stars. They simply didn't want to be on this side without one another. Love conquers all is an overused cliché, but it remains a gift to recognize love in all its various forms while we are still here. Silvio and Marygrace's love story was a privilege to witness. Silvio is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Paula and John Bruno; his daughter and son-in-law, Michele and John Talarico; his grandchildren, Brittany Talarico Campion and her husband Brian, Jonathan Bruno and his wife Cheryl, Jeffery Bruno, Jennifer Talarico and her husband Gavin Gatta, and Jake Talarico and his great grandchildren Jason Germaine Bruno and Gracie Ivy Campion. Private services will be held for immediate family only in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations in Silvio's memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity close to his heart and also the Orange New Jersey Fire Department.
