Merilyn M. Johnson

Merilyn M. Johnson (nee Winthrop) 89 years old of Lakewood, NJ passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022 while in Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Merilyn was born in Caldwell, NJ and raised in Towaco, NJ. She graduated from Boonton High School in 1950. She worked as a secretary at Bell Telephone Labs in Whippany until 1960. During that time, her marriage to James R. Johnson from Caldwell, NJ took place in 1956. Together they had two sons James and Glenn. Merilyn continued her secretarial career in 1980 and re-located to Lakewood, NJ in 1990. Over the time she worked for the Lakewood School system and Oil Price Information Services and retired from the local branch in Lakewood in 2003. Merilyn was predeceased by her son Glenn Johnson who passed away on February 25, 2022. She was also predeceased by her two sisters, Alma & Doris and her brother Darwin. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law James & Patricia Johnson in Ocean Township, daughter-in-law Diane Johnson in Somerset, Grandchildren…James Johnson III in Cliffwood Beach. NJ, Laura Johnson in Austin, TX, Daniel Johnson & Peyton Major (fiancé) in Ashburn, VA, and Jennifer Johnson & John Madaras IV (fiancé) in Franklin Park, NJ. She will always be remembered by her warm smile, her sense of humor and kindness. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 19th from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Rd., Toms River, NJ 08753. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 20th at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Arrive at the funeral home at 10:30 AM. Burial to follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River, NJ.
