Mary Hauenstein

Mary Hauenstein, (nee Leszczak), 87, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Elizabeth, NJ, and graduated from Battin High School, Elizabeth, NJ. After residing in Elizabeth, she moved to Roselle, NJ, and later to Toms River, NJ, where she lived for more than 40 years. Mary worked for Acme Electric in Elizabeth, Packaging Specialties in Roselle, and as an Accounts Payable clerk for Bell Laboratories in Neptune, Freehold and Holmdel, NJ. Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband of almost 65 years, Richard, and her infant grandson, Michael Hauenstein. She was also predeceased by her siblings and their spouses: George Leszczak (Helen), Olga Baytala (John), Nicholas Leszczak (Ellen) and Elizabeth Vezeris (James). She is survived by her three children: Richard Hauenstein and his wife Barbara, James Hauenstein and his wife Marilyn, Christina Paccione and her husband Thomas III; her five grandchildren: David Hauenstein and his wife Jenn Nasta, Dana Terpenning and her husband Drew, Marisa Maslen and her husband Steven, Thomas Paccione IV and Gerard Paccione; her four great grandchildren: Dexter, Ellie and Sadie Terpenning and Jack Maslen; David and Jenn are expecting her fifth great grandchild in September. Mary was very proud of her family and she treasured the time spent together. She established numerous holiday traditions, many of which are centered on her Ukrainian heritage. Mary was a devote Catholic practicing her faith at St. Joseph, the Carpenter, Roselle, then St. Justin the Martyr, Toms River. She and Richard were Marriage Encounter leaders and assisted in many of the parish youth ministry programs in Roselle. At St. Justin the Martyr, Mary was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, the St. Justin’s Seniors, an evening Bingo assistant and a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a tremendous support to her husband, Richard, as he served the St. Justin the Martyr community as an Ordained Deacon. Mary also volunteered at the food kitchen at The Salvation Army, Toms River. Visitation will be at Silverton Funeral Home, 2482 Church Rd., Toms River, NJ, on Thursday, March 17th from 3:00-7:00 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be offered at St. Justin the Martyr Church, Fischer Blvd., Toms River, at 9:30 am on Friday, March 18th. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River.
