Marie B. Ryan

Marie Bernadette Ryan passed away peacefully on February 24, 2022, of natural causes at the age of 95. She was daughter to Ragnhild (Sundby) and Michael DeStefano of Brooklyn, NY and was raised there with her brother Paul who predeceased her. She attended Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn. While a student at Fort Hamilton High School she fell in love with Kenneth Ryan, and they married when he returned from World War II. He predeceased her in 2018 after 70 years of marriage. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth Jr. of Haycock, PA, Kevin of Solebury, PA, Robert of Parlin, NJ and Thomas of Mansfield, MA. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Constance, Alison, Teresa and Pamela; grandchildren Jessica (husband Harry Firko), Rachel, Robert Jr. (Wife Brittany), Matthew, Dylan, Taylor, Gillian and great grandchildren Ryan, Kate, Ella Grace, Nicolas, Payton, Scarlet Rose and Caleb. Marie was an amazing stay at home mother until after her sons had all left the home. She then took on part-time temporary jobs before accepting a position as a medical transcriber for Overlook Hospital in Summit. She additionally served as a trustee and secretary to her husband's second career corporation. Marie enjoyed vacationing with friends and family in the Catskills and Long Beach Island where she would ride a bike through town. She was an avid gardener and master needleworker. She enjoyed traveling, from the Caribbean Islands, California, Texas, Florida, Vermont and Europe. Visiting will be Monday, February 28th from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Rd., Tom’s River, NJ. A mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday March 1st 10:30 AM at St. Luke’s RC Church, Toms River. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s of the Lake Cemetery in Lakewood following the funeral mass. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Marie’s name to Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital, Browns Mills, NJ.
