James J. Tsavlis

February 13, 1937 - July 24, 2021

James (Jimmy) J. Tsavlis, 84, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 24, 2021. Jimmy was born on February 13, 1937 in Newark and has resided in Toms River since 1971. Lovingly known as Pop, he was the true definition of what it means to be a family man. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Evelyn A. Tsavlis; daughter, Martha L. Nagle; son, John E. Tsavlis; and brother, Steven Tsavlis. He is survived by his daughter Dee Tsavlis; his loving grandchildren Nicole Panaro and husband Rob, Christopher Nagle, Danielle Nagle, Shelby Nagle, and Seth Bohler; great-grandsons James and Ryan Panaro; and sister Helen Dinyovszky. Jimmy previously served in the Army and then went on to work at Kenny Press in Newark. Having a passion for education, he graduated from Newark State College in 1971 and then worked as a sixth grade teacher at Woodrow Wilson Elementary in Westfield. Jimmy was proud of his Greek heritage, had a love for Bradley Beach, and adored striking up a conversation with anyone that he could. If you live in Silverton, you have likely been offered a cough drop or a joke by Jimmy. Jimmy was deeply religious and lived his life as the Lord would want, guided by love and generosity. He found joy in helping others, and loved to donate to numerous organizations. “Until we see you with our Lord, we miss you, love you, and are gratified that you lived with such a good, fun, lovable nature that you presented to all of us; all of us have that part of you. You are loved dearly and will be alive in our thoughts forever, in our memories and heart." Last looks, Pop! Graveside services will be Wednesday 1:00 PM at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River. Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Rd., Toms River is in charge of the arrangements.
